Thyroid Yoga® Locations

Our primary location is located in Fern Olivia's healing paradise, Nosara, Costa Rica.

Nosara is a beautiful place with a golden aura, a wonderful vortex of personal, social and global consciousness, a place where people come to find themselves and sometimes never leave. One of them, me.

Nosara is a major yoga mecca and a first-class surf destination, and a robust wellness hub. It’s ideally situated on a pristine coastline teeming with birds, reptiles, insects, arachnids and mammals.

“There are some places that are considered what they call ‘energy centers,’ like Sedona, Arizona, where people come and they don’t know why but there’s something about this place, and that’s what this area is like,” said Nice Alterman, president of the Nosara Civic Association.

Nosara, Costa Rica was recently recognized by National Geographic as one of the healthiest places to live, and the central Nicoya Peninsula of northwest Costa Rica, where Nosara resides, is one of the planet’s top Blue Zones.

What is a “Blue Zone,” you ask?

It is a place where people live happily and healthily for a very long time.

The term was popularized by author-educator-explorer Dan Buettner in his 2008 book, “The Blue Zones: Lessons for Living Longer from People Who’ve Lived the Longest.”Published by the National Geographic SocietyBuettner identified places in the world there is a high concentration of persons over age 100, and there is a substantial disability-free and disease-free life expectancy.

Why are they called “Blue Zones”? The name comes from a 2004 demographic study called “Identification of a Geographic Area Characterized by Extreme Longevity in the Sardinia Island: the AKEA study”(Experimental Gerontology by Gianni Pes and Michel Poulain, among other authors). The study identified Sardinia’s Barbagia region as an area with a very high concentration of men over age 100. As the authors discovered more clusters of long longevity in the world, they began drawing blue circles around them on maps, referring to the areas as “Blue Zones.”

We recommend flying into Liberia Airport, which offers many direct flights. Nosara is a 2.5 hour drive from the airport and we have a friendly and reliable driver and shuttle service we are happy to recommend.

We are off the beaten path, which makes your journey even more sacred, unique, and special.

Featured in C Magazine: Enlightened L.A. women have a new place to commune thanks to Venice doula Paula Mallis, a longtime leader of well-attended women’s circles timed with the moons, equinoxes and solstices, who recently opened WMN Space. It’s an intimate and light-filled center in Culver City—Moroccan rugs, French white oak floors, a shearling chair—for one-on-one and group classes and workshops dedicated to all things women’s wellness. Think prenatal yoga, somatic bodywork, ayurvedic healing therapies, yoni steams and birth prep. When we gather as women with intention and come from a loving, supportive place, magic happens.
